Bickham House named in the North West region’s “Top 20 Care Homes Award”

Bickham House has featured in the carehome.co.uk “Top 20 Care Home Awards 2018 ” for the North West region. The awards are based on more than 75,000 reviews of the region’s 1,914 care homes received from residents and their family and friends between July 2015 and January 2018.

Everything we do is focused on helping people to remain independent and to live and enjoy their lives to the full. We all work together to provide the best care and support for residents and their families and it is fantastic to be recognised in this way.

Christmas at Bickham House

Well, what a lovely Christmas enjoyed by all at Bickham and a Happy New Year to all Residents,  Staff, Families and visitors. The Staff, Resident and visitor get-together was another great success with mince pies, sherry, wine, and chocolate and a very much appreciated piano accompaniment by Kate Robinson, Barbara Froome’s daughter. The Staff also participated in a rendition of Mariah Carey’s “All I want for Christmas is you”. It was lovely to welcome Graham Brady the Conservative MP who undertook his usual tour of the home recognising Staff and Residents alike and welcoming new faces. A massive thank you to all that attended and supported the Home.

Christmas Entertainment

As usual the entertainment was abundant over Christmas with visits from Drew Hubbard for exercises, Allan Barry singing, Razzle Dazzle’s pantomime, Marion’s quiz andSue Frost with her arts and crafts afternoons Religious needs were serviced with R/C and Eucharistic Ministers visiting to deliver Communion. Elizabeth Wagner entertained with her violin, Bruce McLaine sang for us all and we had lovely Carol Singers and a Brownie group to sing which the Residents loved. Last but by no means least Sherry, mince pies, chocolate and beautiful food provided by Duncan Jones and it has to be said his Christmas Dinner surpassed all expectation.

New Manager – Mrs Holli Taylor

Our Manager, Mrs Cathy Myers, retired on 1st November. For 14 years she ensured Bickham House gave all residents a high standard of care by leading an excellent team dedicatedly working beside her. She says she will remember each and every resident, past and present and she will carry many memories of fond times, laughter, love, friends, events and achievements.

Cathy will be succeeded by Mrs Holli Taylor who has been working as Deputy Manager for the past 18 months. Under Holli’s guidance Bickham House will continue to thrive and maintain its excellent reputation.

National Citizenship Service visit

The National Citizenship Service visited for two weeks in August. This is a programme that Trafford runs throughout the year that supports the vocational, personal, social and academic development of young people. During the two weeks the group weeded the garden, painted benches and purchased plants, a gazebo and lighting for the garden. They also threw a party for the residents to show then what they had achieved in the fortnight they were with us. The end result was well received and the garden looked lovely too!

Refurbishments

Our refurbishments are now complete and we have a brand new office and an extended dining room. A fantastic ramp from the dining room gives us easy access to the garden and terrace. The nice weather in July saw many a resident sitting out and enjoying the sunshine. The new patio doors give us welcome fresh air in the dining room during hot meal times and the extra dining space is a great help to all. The extended office is a luxury worth waiting for and doctors, nurses & visitors have commented on it with pleasing results. Overall a great success and well worth the wait!
