We are proud to announce that we have just received the ‘6 Steps to Success North West End of Life Care Award.
The Six Steps to Success Programme has been developed in the North West of England by the Cheshire & Merseyside Clinical Network and the Greater Manchester, Lancs & South Cumbria Clinical Network with support from the National End of Life Care Programme.
The programme is based on the philosophy of palliative care and has been designed to enhance staff knowledge and develop roles and approaches within care home organisations in order to improve the end of life care provided.
Bickham House staff were committed and keen to enrol in the programme so that we could further enhance our best practices in this area. I was delighted to be nominated to attend the 6 core workshops which were held at St Ann’s Hospice in Cheadle, Cheshire.
The 6 core workshops covered the following steps:
Step 1 Discussions as end of life approaches
Step 2 Assessment, care planning and review
Step 3 Coordination of care
Step 4 Delivery of high quality care in care homes
Step 5 Care in the last days of life
Step 6 Care after death
The programme also provided key communication training, advance care planning and ongoing staff support.
Following completion of the programme, all staff at Bickham House were provided with End of Life training to enhance their knowledge and arm them with the confidence to communicate appropriately with residents and their families. We are very proud to have achieved this award and we know that it will help make all the difference to the care we can offer your loved ones.
“End of life care is something we are very passionate about at Bickham House, we want to ensure our residents receive the best possible care. The Six Steps Programme has enabled us to further improve our already high standard of end of life care. It has also enabled staff to feel confident in opening up conversations with residents and families
about end of life wishes and choices. The programme has helped to ensure we are meeting the physical, social, psychological and spiritual needs of our residents”.
